International relationships

• Mike is well known in many parts of the world and enjoys a good international reputation through teaching and research commitments. He has long standing links with Tanzania and in the mid-1990s became coordinator of a British Council Link program with Thailand. He has been invited to teach in Zimbabwe, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia and Taiwan.
• He maintains a very productive link with Professor Hilton Deeth and the University of Queensland, Australia. This resulted in funding from Dairy Innovation Australia Ltd (DIAL) to study factors affecting the heat stability of milk powders.
• In 2012 he gave a course of lectures on dairy science and technology in Taiwan. He has been invited back in 2013.
• He has been an evaluator for Food Industries Research Measures (FIRM) Research Program in Dublin and for projects run by Enterprise Ireland.
• Along with his research students  he regularly presented their research findings at International Meetings. He recently attended the Minerals in Dairy Products Conference in Wuxi, China, 2017, the IDF meeting in Dublin and the NIZO Symposium in Singapore.
In the past three years he has conducted workshops for different companies in Ireland, Germany, Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore, Shanghai and Australia.
 Academic Activities
• He is  a regular referee for several journals: Food Chemistry, International Dairy Journal, Journal of Dairy Science, Journal of Dairy Research, Journal of Food Engineering, the International Journal of Dairy Technology and Dairy Science and Technology and Rumin.
He has an excellent publication  record with over 80 refereed papers and over 20 book chapters
• He was external examiner to BSc and MSc courses at University College, Cork (2010-2013),external examiner for Cardiff Metropolitan University (2013-2016)  and has just accepted a post at the University of Surrey.
